Java setlist 2009/01/18

Oh yes - over at Fred's again. Where else would I be? It's the very best thing I can do with a Monday.

DO vs BE

Walk-in: I used the Show me your Hope powerpoint from last week and used God of this City behind it.
Gifted for Leadership (a community of women leaders) - I used an extract from their 14-day Reflections for Leaders - Day 2:
"It’s so easy as leaders to go, go, go and do, do, do. But God is calling us to
be, be, be. To-do lists, bullet points, and checkmarks have their place, but
when it comes to your spiritual life, you need to toss an “achievement” mindset
into the garbage and spend some time in God’s presence simply being the real
you."

Luke 10:38-42 Jesus on Martha DO vs Mary BE

Putting aside all the busy-ness, hurry and scurry that usually describes the beginning of the year - including the school year – I wanted us all to concentrate on & be with the God that makes it all possible.

John 15: 4 [Jesus says] “Remain in me, and I will remain in you.” What does remaining in Jesus mean to you?

Prayer:

Drop Thy still dews of quietness,
Till all our strivings cease;
Take from our souls the strain and stress,
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of Thy peace.

Breathe through the heats of our desire
Thy coolness and Thy balm;
Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
Speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,
O still, small voice of calm.
Majesty

We Declare Your Majesty

Awesome God

Heart of Worship - starting on I'll bring you more than a song (Offering - Read an extract from Aaron by Francine Rivers; a piece from when they were all bringing things to help with the building of the temple. Beautiful. Just beautiful. Where is my heart? Am I excited about what God might use my sacrifice or my gift for within His kingdom? Am I giving back to Him everything He gave me?)

This went well until we tried to give them a little space just to sing by messing around with 'I'll bring you more than a song' and 'It's all about You'. They're a traditional bunch and I think this blew them out of the water a bit, which didn't help the contemplation one bit. Note to self: Give them more of this during 'funky' worship before trying it during the quieter stuff.

Prayer:
You are God in our living; there in our breathing; God in our waking and in our sleeping.You are God in our resting; there in our working; God in our thinking and in our speaking.
Be our everything.
You are God in our hoping; there in our dreaming; God in our watching and in our waiting.You are God in our laughing; there in our weeping; God in our hurting and in our healing.
Jesus Christ, You are in us the hope of glory. You are everything. Be our everything

Coffee - always the good stuff

Sermon by
Pastor Don on the parable of the talents. Don reminded us that each one of us have spiritual gifts and talents along with everything else that He has given us to use for the kingdom and for our church. He reminded us of what Jesus gave - one life. All of it. And what fruit that bore!

**Communion** - How deep the Father's love for us (two verses sung by team whilst others taking communion and then third verse together)

Amazing Grace - first verse only (My Chains tune)

My Jesus, My Saviour - definitely need to give this one a rest now for at least 6 months. We completely oversing this...

How was your Sunday?

Loved your DO vs. Be theme. This is something we all need to remember on a constant basis because it is so easy to get so busy with the WORK of the ministry that we forget to just BE with HIM. Thanks for sharing.

What a great worship experience you've described! Beautiful. Thank you for sharing it!

I would definitely attend a worship service called 'Java'. Absolutely. :)

Thanks Kim and Stef. Despite the retro songs, it was a great time of worship. I asked for input on the songs using Facebook and on my blog. I'll blog about the results of that later today, if possible.

Tomlin's stuff always goes over amazingly well. My wife's vision was playing keyboard at the time too, and kind of stunned her for a minute too. thanks for the comment.

Sounds like a beautiful day Louise. And I can totally identify with needing to give songs a rest - time and season and all that:-) God bless you richly!
