Don't shoot off your mouth, or speak before you think. Don't be too quick to tell God what you think he wants to hear. God's in charge, not you—the less you speak, the better.

This hit me like a sledgehammer yesterday as I turned over the page on my desktop calendar. I tend to be a very eager beaver. I've probably always been like that. There are some very positive sides to that aspect of my character, but this is not one of them. Some people are naturally good at this - thinking before they speak. Some have trained themselves to consider their words with care.

Are you one who is reckless with words or have you developed the ability to weigh your words on God's scales?

As for me, this weekend I was too quick to tell God what I thought He wanted to hear. Time to be still and listen for a bit.
